ECO SCHOOL PROGRAMME
Amanzimtoti Primary School recognises the growing global trend to embed principles of a sustainable lifestyle into all spheres of an institution, and is taking meaningful action to incorporate these in the school curriculum and in the management of our school premises.
Our school is committed to caring for the environment and actively monitoring our water and energy consumption. Waste management and recycling initiatives are ongoing.
Amanzimtoti Primary registered for the Eco-Schools Programme in 2011 and joined a community of thousands of schools, around the world who are concerned enough about the environment to pro-actively care for it.
The themes we cover include the following Sustainability Goals:
- Biodiversity & Nature
- Community & Heritage
- Health & Well Being
- Marine & Coast
- School Grounds
- Support of other schools
- a school Eco Code.
- a committee which includes Administration staff, a Governing Body Member and representatives from each Grade.
- 3 Enviro club groups and Bird Watching Team.
We were awarded an Eco-schools Bronze Award in 2012 for our resource use action project. Silver award for healthy living in 2013. Green Flag in 2014 for biodiversity, healthy living and resource use. Gold award in 2015 for working towards a healthy environment and whole school development. We are very proud to have received our International Flag in 2016.
We received our Platinum 3 Award at the beginning of 2019 for 8 years of Eco Schools Programmes.
