CULTURE CHOIR • GUITAR • DRAMA • ART & CRAFT • IPAD PROGRAMME

Our school has three choirs consisting of between 50 and 80 children. The band consisting of marimbas, drums and guitars companies our choirs. Each year there is a different theme, which allows for variety and the continuous learning of new material.

Every year the Choir participates in the Annual Schools Choir Festival where various local schools come to show case their talents. It is an event not to be missed. Our choirs can be seen at many events during the year. The Senior Choir has developed a reputation for its entertainment value.

The Guitar Club meets once a week and provides learners with a chance to learn guitar and/or improve their playing ability. Learners bring their own guitars. They are taught songs to be played in assembly or songs the Choir will be singing.

Some meetings have a particular theme, such as “tuning your guitar” or “playing in drop-D tuning,” but for the most part, lots of strumming can be heard coming from the music room.

This extra-mural is for grades 5–7. Due to large numbers of eager performers, auditions are held to determine who is chosen for this group.  They meet twice a week, working towards a show, either as leads in the school concert or as performers in the concert.

Art and Craft Club is for all Grades. The learners get to make all things crafty, using lots of different materials such as beads, wood, paint and paper. Learners are also taught a variety of art techniques to apply to their crafts.

The shape of education is changing almost daily. Our learners are being exposed to a wider range of innovations than any of us could have anticipated, and if current trends tell us anything, it is that technology is going to be an increasingly dominant part of our lives.

By going with a 1:1 device programme in Grades 6 and 7, Amanzimtoti Primary seeks to begin moving its educational practice in a direction that is more progressive and relevant to the world in which we live today.
